South Africa in September

September is South Africa’s spring season and the start of warmer weather. As temperatures increase, the popularity of visiting the country also increases. However, some activities, such as swimming at the beach, are unavailable. To compensate for this, some aquatic life, such as whale watching in Hermanus, is available for viewing.

As peak season hasn’t begun to pick up yet, September is a great time to experience a safari adventure since rates for accommodation won’t break the bank.

At the start of this month, wildflowers are blooming, and temperatures are rising. The weather has improved much from August, as there is generally little to no rainfall this month.

Weather in September

September’s weather improves and is much better than June, July, and August’s. While temperatures increase, there is still some chance of rain as the weather doesn’t immediately change.

Average Weather in September

Min 9℃48℉4.2 mm
Max 19℃66℉88 mm

A prime destination for wildlife viewing, Kgalagadi has some of the most popular game-viewing animals, such as wildebeest, springboks, elands, and leopards.

Karoo National Park

The Karoo is a region where animals can be seen all year round. In September, the winter season is still prevalent here, and temperatures can be freezing in the early hours of the morning and the evening for game drives. As the weather is colder, packing warmer clothes is advised.
